Sermorelin injection providers, graded

The injection is the form sermorelin was approved in

42 providers with a published check sell sermorelin as an injection or a vial, and they're all here. 12 of them also sell a troche, a tablet or a spray, but this page grades and prices the injection alone.

That matters because the injection is the only form with a regulatory past. Both of FDA's Geref approvals were for an injection: a pituitary test in 1990 and growth-hormone deficiency in children in 1997. The maker asked FDA to withdraw them, and in 2013 FDA found that wasn't for safety or effectiveness.

What ships today is compounded. FDA's 503B list for outsourcing facilities keeps sermorelin acetate in Category 1 and marks it as a component of an approved drug, while the 503A list for pharmacies doesn't name it in any category. The sermorelin page carries those listings with their dates.

Injection studies differ by population and outcome

In 110 children with growth-hormone deficiency, daily injections raised average height velocity from 1.6 inches (4.1 cm) a year to 3.1 inches (8.0 cm) a year at 6 months. That 1996 study was open-label; 86 of the 110 children entered the efficacy analysis.

Adults are a thinner record. In 11 healthy men aged 64 to 76, 6 weeks of injections raised growth-hormone release at night but left IGF-1, weight and body composition unchanged. A small randomized Geref study in men with HIV lipodystrophy found secondary lean-mass and trunk-fat changes. Current compounded preparations are not FDA-approved. Historical Geref approval does not certify today’s formulation, adult wellness claim or pharmacy preparation. The other forms have less. PubMed lists no human study of sermorelin taken by mouth, and a nasal version tested in the 1990s reached the blood at 3 to 5% of an IV dose. Do sermorelin tablets work? has the form-by-form table.

What the 4 checks catch on an injectable order

A sterile injectable puts the weight on the pharmacy. 20 of the 42 providers name a dispensing pharmacy with an active license, and 22 don't. That gap is the first thing to settle before a vial ships.

The research-only check reads the rest of the catalog, not the sermorelin. 5 providers here sell an experimental product needing separate regulatory clarification or a product labeled for research use, and lose that Pass. The check page names it.

The old label said to refrigerate; the compounded vial has its own label

The former US labeling for sermorelin vials, last revised by FDA in 2001, said to store them refrigerated at 36°F to 46°F (2°C to 8°C). That line covered one brand's unopened vials. It never covered the compounded products on this page.

There is no current FDA label to fall back on, and no published study says how long a dispensed vial keeps at room temperature. The pharmacy's label sets the storage temperature and the beyond-use date, and those can differ between two pharmacies' vials. Does sermorelin need to be refrigerated? covers what to ask.

Provider pages tend to describe the supply length and how fast it ships, and rarely how to keep it. Treat a missing storage line as a question to ask, not as permission to leave the box out.

The injection usually costs more than the troche at the same provider

Standing monthly prices for the injection run from $120.65 to $349. The median of the 18 published figures is $199, or $2,388 a year.

3 providers price both the injection and a form you take by mouth. At 2 of them the troche or tablet costs less, by up to $100 a month; 1 charges the same. A lower price there buys the form with no published human data.

2 providers print a lower first-month price on the injection. The card shows what you'd pay after it.

3 providers bill by a period other than the calendar month, so the card shows that charge converted to a month.
